Visas for Permanent Employment via Employer Nomination

Overseas workers may reside and work in Australia for a nominating employer using permanent employer-sponsored visas. These include the Subclass 186 (ENS) and Subclass 187 (RSMS) visas.

After two or three years of employment on a 457 or 482, respectively, an overseas worker may apply for a permanent working visa. The options include applying via the direct entry stream or the transitional stream, depending on their profession.

Better job opportunities

Skilled foreign nationals may live and work in Australia for a nominated Australian employer with an employer-sponsored visa. Applicants for visas must provide proof of their qualifications. Or they must have enough experience in a specific profession on the applicable skilled profession list.

Visa alternatives offered by employers

1. Subclass 482 Skill Shortage Visa or TSS Visa

A new visa subclass, the TSS Visa (Temporary Skill Shortage), has superseded Subclass 457. Businesses in Australia that are facing real skill shortages and are unable to fill open jobs with local workers may apply for TSS visas.

  • Multiple pathways exist within the Subclass 482 Visa (TSS).
  • Two years or less in the short-term
  • Up to four years in the medium-term
  • Stream for the Labour Agreement

Beneficiaries with TSS visas can:

  • There is a four-year limit on your ability to reside and work in Australia.
  • Study in Australia
  • Request a 482 visa for you and your immediate family members.
  • Become a permanent resident (if qualified).

Prior to applying for the TSS visa, a skill evaluation can be necessary. This depends on the applicant’s place of origin and the specified profession. It takes more than two years of experience to pass the examination, according to certain evaluating agencies.

Skill assessment

Before applying for a main TSS visa, some individuals are required to complete a skills assessment.
