Grand Lane Light Lockers

Hidden near the heart of the city, the Grand Lane at Barrack Street has a collection of Perth’s best 2D and 3D street artworks. Over 30 artists such as Jacqueline Ball and Tom Freeman have been commissioned to display their works at the Light Lockers since its first instalment in 2011, with a variety of subject matters including patriotism and mental health. Along the lane murals and light boxes are combined and improve the atmosphere around the spot.

The Backlot Perth

Heath Ledger is one of Perth’s best contributions to the entertainment world, and the city has quite a few touching tributes to the great actor. In the main foyer of The Backlot Perth is a mural of the actor in his role as The Joker, painted by Australian artist Vincent Fantauzzo, who was a close friend of Ledger. With the mural portraying Ledger in his best known role, Fantauzzo hopes to inspire local filmmakers “to reach for the heights”.

The Giant’s View

Anyone who drives through the Mitchell Freeway should be familiar with the giant blue figures on a building at Oxford Close, West Leederville. Also visible from the Leederville Train Station, The Giant’s View was painted by Perth artist Kyle Hughes-Odgers, who said he wanted something that people can easily spot whether while driving fast or walking. The mural is meant to visualise a sense of place and hope and speak for the creativity of the community in nearby Leederville.

Parry Lane, Northbridge

As the centre of culture and entertainment, Northbridge has quite a vast collection of street arts, most of which are centered at the Parry Lane. The works cover a range of themes related to everyday urban life, featuring artists such as Daek Williams, Keiron Broadhurst, and The Yok. One of the most touching works displayed is a tribute to late cricketer Phillip Hughes, painted by graphic designer Aidan Garnett who crafted the mural in memory of a good friend of his who was a huge cricket fan.
