Temporary Working Visa
The Australian immigration programme is a successful one and is a permanent measure to keep a balance in regards to the numbers of people entering the country.
Australia’s migration policy was designed with the country’s economic and social needs in mind. There are a variety of streams of programmes and visa categories that are specific to what type of individual is entering the country. The planning level for the 2014-15 Migration Programme is set at 190 000 places.
For those migrating to the country, there is the migration component which consists of those who are in the skill stream migrants, family stream migrants and special eligibility migrants. These people have come to Australia out of choice and would more likely to have the correct documents to make a move to the country. The more popular visas for people taking up work whilst in the country are Temporary Working Visa and Working Holiday Visa.
Temporary Working Visa (Subclass 457)
This particular visa allows the holder to travel to Australia for work for a period of up to four years and only to work for an approved business that is sponsoring you. The key requirement for the 457 visa is that you will need to have the necessary skills to fill a position at the approved business.
Obtaining a 457 visa needs you to meet the required level of the English language and have to undertake the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and the Occupational English Test (OET). These two tests are used to determine your level of English language proficiency.
As of September 2014 the minimum salary that a holder of a 457 visa can be paid by his/her employer is $54,000 per year. If the employer is offering a position in the business that does not normally pay the minimum then it is most likely not approved for the 457 visa.
