The Best New Music Coming Out Of Sydney
The new music scene in Sydney is better than ever. From cemented artists to up-and-coming groups, here are just some of the guys and girls we’re championing at the moment.
Carmada
They’ve only been partners for a year, but LDRU and Yahtzel have become a killer duo with festival sets and EP releases. After a B2B set at Splendour In The Grass, Carmada was born and together they created ‘Realise’, the iTunes number one signed on Sony Music and OWSLA. This November and December, Carmada will continue their successful run of festival appearances at Stereosonic, playing in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.
The Lulu Raes
This four-piece band have combined commercial cheese with dance floor fillers to create catchy, summery dance-pop. Inspired by everyone from The Strokes and The Pixies to Christina Aguilera and Macy Gray, their pop n roll tunes can be heard at Lost Paradise before the end of the year, and the group’s last tour dates on 29th October, 5th November and 6th November.
Bella Sarris
Ok, she may reside in one of the coolest European capitals – Berlin – but Bella Sarris honed her craft inside Sydney’s underground clubs like the cave at Chinese Laundry. She has made 2015 her breakthrough year with gigs at Space Ibiza, Eastern Electrics and Sonus Festival, and returns to Sydney on 4th December to play to a home crowd at Subsonic.
Ngaiire
This well travelled chick is original and inspirational with an enviable vocal prowess – and she takes her shit seriously. A student in Jazz Studies, backing singer for Blue King Brown and contestant on Australian Idol, have all led to Ngaiire being one of the most unique artists coming out of Australia, and you have to sit up and take note of her incredible 2013 debut ‘Lamentations’ and most recent single, ‘Once’ from July this year.
Little May
Indie-folk female trio, Little May, are starting to find success internationally. The three school friends, now 25, have just released their edgy studio album, ‘For The Company’, following a successful US tour supporting none other than Mumford and Sons – which no doubt gained them a few fans. Authentic, mood rock that inspires some soul searching, they are just what you need for the Australian summer ahead.
