The Instagram Hotel
It literally pays to be popular at Pyrmont hotel 1888, where guests with 10,000 or more Instagram followers get their stay for free.
The hotel itself was inspired by the photo-sharing app that has given airplane wings and takeaway coffee a new found appeal. It’s therefore no surprise that the boutique hotel is very photogenic.
Built in 1888 (hence the name) $30 million has been spent on restoration to make sure everything looks the part even with #nofilter. With vibrant artwork and bright furniture there’s a lot to brighten up instagram feeds and more importantly to make the hotel a stylish destination.
With 90 rooms there are a lot of features to snap, and guests are greeted with fellow instagrammers uploads on two large screens with the hashtag #1888.
To avoid the annoyance of missing out on a sight that just cries out for a filter, Insta-walk maps are available from reception, taking guests to photo ready sights such as the Chinese Gardens and Pyrmont Bridge.
Having worked up an appetite there are share plates and charcuterie boards available at the 1888 Eatery and Bar. Even the food is a photo opportunity, because everyone knows those cold meats work so well with brannan.
No instagram inspired hotel would be complete without acknowledging the notorious selfie, so there’s a designated ‘selfie space’ where guests can pose behind a frame to their hearts content.
The fun of too much instagram activity can often be replaced with regret after draining your iphone to 1%. Luckily, each room features an ipad, so guests can recharge their snap happy batteries and also order room service and control the air conditioning.
So for those of you who are on your way to instafame, get hashtagging and a free night’s stay could be yours. Brilliant, only 9,930 followers to go. #seemsunlikely
