The Rumble In The Underground
If you missed out on the Summer Swing Smackdown in earlier in 2012, or alternatively if you loved it and would be thrilled at heading to something organized by the same three crazy gals at HMS PopUp Productions, then this news is for you! They were responsible for critically acclaimed sell-out A Saucy Little Secret just a few short weeks ago, and are now bringing Perth a full day, full-on festival in the Perth State Theatre Underground. ??Fourteen bands (7 home grown and 7 interlopers from the East) will play off against each other, song for song, across two stages, alternating tunes in a fast paced underground rumble.
Twelve full hours of non-stop rockabilly, blues and jump-blues tunes for your listening and dancing pleasure! This is an event like Perth has never seen before, with a line-up like Perth has never seen before – conceptualised and delivered by Perth’s newest and grooviest arts entrepreneurs, HMS PopUp Productions.
The concept for the production stems from HMS PopUp Productions’ desire to offer musicians and artists from around Australia opportunities to network and build supportive connections, to enable strong interstate and international ties and foster collaboration. It was also designed to ensure that artists can participate in socially and environmentally sustainable events, which build their profiles and expand their audiences, while committing to social responsibility.??The festival will also feature a wealth of home grown talent – local fashion, art and accessories stalls, a DIY fashion show, a ‘then and now’ rockabilly photography competition, a retro bike show, burlesque and rockabilly dancers and much, much more… ??But the cornerstone of this incredible day will be the amazing musicians from all over Australia coming together to face off and show their stuff. Will Perth prevail? Or will the muscle from the East be too strong for us…
The spectacular line-up for the Rumble in the Underground includes – ??From the East – The Sin & Tonics, The ReChords, Hank’s Jalopy Demons, Scotty Baker, Kieron McDonald, Lady Voodoo and the Rituals and the Pat Capocci Combo.??From Perth – The Continentals, The Waltones, The Crawdads, Johnny Law and the Pistol Packin’ Daddies, Mama Red’s Malt Licker Minstrels, Bang Bang Betty & the H-Bombs and The Vibrolators with Peta Lee.
Fourteen bands for just $99 dollars? That’s $7.07 per band! You can’t get a cup of coffee and a muffin in Perth for $7.07!??The Festival will also feature Special Guests – DJ Razor Jack (PER) and DJ Swingabilly Ray (QLD), Mistress Chrissy Keepence and the Lindy Charm School.
