The Skilled Occupations List (SOL) for the year 2016-17

The new Skilled Occupations List (SOL) for the year 2016-17 have finally been released by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP).

The new SOL is going to take into full effect from the 1^st of July of this year.

The visas which are going to be used for the updated list are:

• Skilled Independent Visa subclass 189
• Skilled Regional Provisional Visa subclass 489
• Graduate Temporary Visa subclass 485

The Immigration Department have also come out with the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL). The CSOL is going to be use for the following visas:

• Skilled Nominated Visa subclass 190
• Temporary Work Skilled Visa subclass 457
• Employer Nominated Scheme subclass 186

The new Skilled Occupation List for 2016-17

Please note:

• The Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) is published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and is current as at the 1^st of July 2016.
• NEC stands for ‘not elsewhere classified’.
• * Judges and Magistrates are appointed positions by the department of the Attorney General.
• ** Tribunal Member comprise of a large number of a range of positions appointed by a number of relevant agencies.
• *** Shows that inspite of paragraphs 2, 5 and 6, for a nomination or visa application for a Subclass 457 visa or a Subclass 186 visa, it does not include positions in Fast Food or Takeaway Food Service.
• **** Shows that the Minister of Religion is a skilled occupation for the purposes of paragraph 2.72I(5)(ba) of the Regulations only, as well as in relation to an application for a Subclass 402 Training and Research visa. Minister of Religion is not a skilled occupation in any other visa subclass, despite paragraphs 2, 5, 6 & 8.
