Deep Street Soul with special guests The Perfections
Following on from the November 2011 release of the album ‘Look out, Watch Out’, Deep Street Soul & Freestyle Records (UK) are proud to announce the next single (45) from the album ‘Hold on me/This Love Ain’t Big Enough (For The Two Of Us)’. Playing a rare 2012 Melbourne show they are bringing the full 7 piece band to the Toff In Town on Oct 6th for a night of explosive funk & sweet soul. Support on the night is from Melbourne garage soulsters The Perfections.
Freestyle Records (UK) 45 Press Release
Without doubt, there are only a handful of contemporary bands who can really nail the authentic, gritty and soulful feel that so many groups attempt to create, and Australia’s Deep Street Soul are one of those outfits leading from the front.
One vital factor in creating genuine 21st century funk & soul is having top notch vocalists with the prerequisite spirit of real soul and DSS suffer an embarrassment of riches in that respect – having both Mighty May Johnston and Shirley Davis strut their stuff on either side of this cracking 45 single.
Taken from the recent DSS album ‘Look Out, Watch Out’ (FSRCD092), the A side ‘Hold On Me’ was screaming out for release as a kicking 7 inch single, as May and the band push the big funk button on this original composition. We suggest you wallow in the chunky horns, diamond hard drums and growling organ riffs and let your knees be knocked bandy by Warren Hunters thundering bass lines!
Residing on the flip side is DSS’s respectful take on a quite recent modern funk classic, namely Charles Bradley & The Bullets ‘This Love Ain’t Big Enough (for The Two Of Us) Shirley Davis puts a feminine slant on this super hard funky soul gem, and rounds off Deep Street Souls’ latest addition to the modern funk lexicon.

Matt Walker ‘In Echoes of Dawn’ Album Launch with special guests Lucie Thorne and Sean McMahon’s Western Union
Hard to believe that it’s been seven years since the last Matt Walker release. It may be a long time between releases but Matt has been exceptionally busy working on countless albums and projects for others as producer, session player, soundtrack composer and collaborator. His commitment to other projects may often overshadow his own work, but he has nevertheless won a coveted ARIA award for his 2000 release Soul Witness, as well receiving two nominations the previous year for I Listen to the Night. It goes without saying that within the Australian music industry, there is much respect for Matt Walker.
FUSE is incredibly excited to present his new album In Echoes of Dawn, which sees Matt extend his masterful array of instrument proficiency to present an almost entirely solo album. Guest spots being limited to backing vocals (Zoe Randall and Steve Hassett – Luluc), harmonica (Broderick Smith – The Dingos) and violin (Jason Bunn).
The new solo album In Echoes of Dawn is to be released on 7 September 2012 through Fuse, and we a proud to announce it’s a stunning, uplifting piece of work that moves from swamp-soul through to harmony-rich country blues and lilting piano-driven balladry. Matt’s voice is haunting, effortless and pure, and his song-writing here is nothing short of a revelation. In Echoes of Dawn will be released in conjunction with some local tour dates Australia in September & October, followed by a European tour in November 2012.
Get to the show early, initial copies will come with a bonus disc Lost Ragas, featuring 50 minutes of instrumental music recorded before and during the process of making the album. Taken as a whole, this 21 track set has a soundtrack-like quality. Lighter acoustic work is offset by ominous electric guitar tones and dirgy feedback work. Engaging and evocative Lost Ragas is limited to initial physical sales only and will not see digital release.

The response was overwhelming and saw Microwave Jenny play 20 houses in 6 different states. After the tremendous response to their national tour of house concerts, Microwave Jenny will be touring to promote their new single “You, Me, Backseat” from their new EP “Chasing You”.
Simon Clark from the AU Review called them “charismatic” and Penelope Broadbent from Australian Stage called Tessa’s vocals “wonderful” and “angelic” while Dom Alessio and Tom Ballard from triple j describe their music as “super cute” and “a feel-good experience”.

Saturday 13th October
Presented by Archery Club, Music Feeds and Milton Archer,
The Aston Shuffle ‘Can’t Stop Now’! Tour with special guests Clubfeet, 96 Bulls, Deacon Rose and Tin Lion.
The Aston Shuffle return from a year in the studio with the first taste of their sophomore album release – the epic, and aptly titled, Can’t Stop Now.
Only a year and a half ago the boys cemented their place as the next wave of Australia’s emerging electronic elite with their debut album release, Seventeen Past Midnight. Rolling Stone Australia ranked it in the top 5 Australian albums of 2011, calling the lead single Your Love “the best dance single to come out of Australia in a decade”. Followed by singles Start Again and Won’t Get Lost, the boys ambitiously explored a more accomplished song-writing approach – equal parts emotive, inclusive and anthemic – all in perfect balance with their trademark dance floor sensibility.
Can’t Stop Now captures that approach perfectly. As heart-on-sleeve as it is hands-in-the-air, it’s The Aston Shuffle’s boldest statement to date and heralds the impending release of their next album in early 2013, and with it a damn fine summer.
Tickets $15.00 + BF on sale from Moshtix – phone: 1300 GET TIX (438 849), on-line or Moshtix outlets including Polyester (City).
