Tiger Tours In India
Naturetrek have been providing wildlife holidays for 25 years, and in the 30 Tiger Direct! tours they have organised so far, every one has resulted in a tiger sighting.
The tour concentrates on areas outside of the cities, so visitors will spend the most possible time in India’s national parks. As well as the tigers, expect to see sambar, spotted and swamp deer, gaur, golden jackal, wild boar, a variety of birds and possibly even leopards, dhole or sloth deer.
The tour begins in India on 5th April 2015, where after flying from Nagpur to Mumbai Airport you will be driven straight to Pench National Park. Situated in the Chhindwara district, the area that inspired ‘The Jungle Book’, the park protects 758 square kilometres of tiger habitat.
From Pench, visitors journey across the Vindhya Hills to Kanha National Park, one of the largest in India at 1,945 square kilometres. The park is situated on a plateau in the Maikal range of hills, surrounded by grassland and bamboo forests, with lakes and drinking holes which make it an opportune place to see wildlife, particularly swamp deer. From the Kanha Jungle Lodge close to the gate entrance, trips will take place twice a day into the park. Visitors stay at the lodge for 4 nights, giving plenty of time to see the park’s wildlife.
The tour can be extended to begin in the deciduous teak and bamboo forest of Tadoba National Park, beside the Andhari River. Naturetrek visitors are some of the only international tourists, due to limited nearby accommodation. Visitors will stay in a 12-roomed lodge on the edge of the park. The tour can also be extended to include the Satpura Tiger Reserve, one of the most scenic and peaceful of all the parks and one of the best to see leopards.
Prices start at £2,395GBP/$4,360AUD per person for nine days, based on two sharing and includes food, lodge accommodation, flights and guides. For more information, go to www.naturetrek.co.uk.
