Todd Terry Give Me A Reason Review
Ahead of the release of his much-anticipated Ministry of Sound mix, ‘Our House is Your House’, dance music legend Todd Terry has unveiled the second single to be taken from the album. ‘Give Me a Reason’ features Robin S, and is taken from the second disc of the mix in which Todd curates the sound of house music’s current resurgence, and is the second of original tracks produced by Terry exclusively for the album.
Todd Terry needs no introduction to house music fans, but ‘Give Me a Reason’ kicks off with familiarly choppy snares and vocal samples along with a deliciously squelchy bass line. This gives way to the track’s main anthemic riff, a sound that clearly Robin S feeds off brilliantly. Her delivery grows more insistent, and Todd’s treatment of her vocals is a particular highlight, retaining the raw, soulful impact of her sound throughout.
The track is in-keeping with the spirit of Terry’’s project as a whole, which sees him contrast a first disc of classic house tracks close to his heart, with a selection of current hits in the second. Terry’s fresh, polished production style on ‘Give Me a Reason’ still manages to maintain a classic sound through the vocals of Robin S as well as through his trademark chopping of drums and samples.
The climax of the track illustrates just why Terry is so important to this genre, and why Ministry of Sound have chosen him to kick off their new series, as he blends layer upon layer of vocal tracks seamlessly, sampling Robin’s ad-libs variously in an almost instrumental way.
‘Give Me a Reason’ is now available as an Instant Gratification Download track when pre-ordering the whole album via iTunes. Anyone still sitting on the fence can also check out Terry’s preview mini mix of the album.
