5 Reasons to Visit Turin, Italy

Discover Turin Italy

Turin is one of many beautiful places in Italy that are more than worth a visit. A place of great cultural importance, it’s located in northern Italy, is the capital of the Piedmont region, and houses around 2.2 million people. People from all walks of life can find something to enjoy in the region, from underground electronic music to breathtaking architecture, from great cuisine to rich history. Here, we run down five of the reasons you should make the time to check out Turin sooner rather than later.

Movement Torino

1) Music & Festivals

Turin is the capital of electronic music in Italy. To prove the point, it boasts two of the foremost techno festivals in Europe: Movement and KappaFutur. Both are cultural and environmentally aware and offer workshops and forums as well as world-class DJs like Derrick May, Richie Hawtin, and Nina Kraviz. Movement Torino takes place this month—visit https://www.movement.it/ for further info.

2) Art & Museums

There is so much on offer here, a week wouldn’t be enough to get started. Take The Art Hotel Boston, owned by Roberto Franci, a collector who’s filled the hotel with contemporary art, with each room having a different theme. In Turin, modern art rivals historic art.

3) Affordability

Like clubbing utopia Berlin, Turin is affordable for young creative artists who want to work in art and music. The city has 100,000 students, so you can always find a new cheap bar or food place opening, and the city prides itself on being rough and ready, at the vanguard of the arts and welcoming to all.

4) The ‘Paris of Italy’

Much like Detroit in the US, Turin emerged on the world stage during the golden age of the motor industry. Importantly, though, it has followed those boom years with a fine creative and entrepreneurial vibe, making the city the cultural melting pot it is today.

5) Chocolate

We all love chocolate, so Turin is the place for you – it’s been the ‘chocolate heart of Europe’ since the 17th century. Hot chocolate houses and chocolate spreads were invented in Turin, so you don’t have to go far to sample some of the finest you’ve ever tasted.
