Visiting Kata Tjuta – Uluru’s Little Sisters

Follow us on Google News

Perhaps not as well known, but just as stunning, Kata Tjuta is made up of 36 domes of rusty rock that cover more than 20 km2 and are a must see when visiting Australia’s outback.

Just a stone’s throw from Uluru (57 km approximately), the domes also reach an incredible height of 546 meters above the ground as they loom on the horizon.

These secretive rocks – formerly known as The Olgas – remain an important site for the Anangu people, and whilst they welcome visitors to the site, the legends and history is kept from those outside of the traditional land owners circles. The name Kata Tjuta comes from the Pitjantjatjara language of the Anangu people meaning ‘many heads’.

What can you see at Kata Tjuta?

For those on Uluru tours visiting Kata Tjuta, aside from rocks there’s also lots of flora and fauna to be found around the site. The Walpa Gorge is where you’ll find lots of plantlife, stunning wildflowers as well as wallabies, snakes, lizards, birds and more.

What tours visit Kata Tjuta?

You can visit Kata Tjuta on a 3 day Uluru adventure which sets off from Alice Springs and takes you to Watarrka National Park. Whilst here you can take in the magnificent Kings Canyon, the Lost City, Amphitheatre, and the Garden of Eden, as well as taking in the glory of Uluru at sunrise and sunset. Over your three days in the outback you’ll also get to dine under the incredible stars of the Southern Hemisphere and camp on the crimson earth of Australia’s Red Centre.
