Volunteer In The Tropical Paradise Of Fiji
Where the blue of the sky matches the azure waters of the Pacific Ocean are the 300-plus islands of Fiji. A four-hour flight from Australia and 10 hours from Los Angeles, these pretty little isles are unspoiled, tranquil and have long been a holiday destination for sun seekers. While spending your days lying on the many golden beaches may be tempting, you can discover the real Fiji with a unique experience: volunteering.
Volunteer work in this tropical paradise is like no other, and you’ll be amazed by the types of projects you can work on. Get to the heart of the islands by working alongside local people, contribute to important conservation work both inland and out in the crystal clear waters, and hone your creativity while learning more about Fiji each day – the opportunities and life experiences are endless.
Fiji Marine Conservation & Diving
With its palm-tree-fringed shores, beautiful waters and abundance of marine life, it’s no wonder why so many people come to Fiji to learn more about our blue planet. But, as a volunteer, you can gain an experience that most of us can only dream of. This Fiji Marine Conservation & Diving Project on the island of Beqa takes you diving at some of the best spots in the world to record what lies beneath the surface. Important research includes studying the various marine life living on the coral reefs, observing feeding habits and behaviour patterns of the marine life, and report on the effects and impact of global warming and human activity.
While you receive equipment, training and research materials in the price of the Project, you can also take a PADI course at an extra cost to become a professional diving instructor. With the freedom to choose your length of stay from one week at £895pp to 20 weeks at £3,555pp, you can enjoy accommodation, food, 24-hour in-country support, training, diving equipment, boat transfer, and pre-departure support included in the price – with the added bonus of making lifelong friends.
Fiji Shark Conservation
Those fascinated with sharks will be captivated by these endangered and misunderstood animals on the Fiji Shark Conservation Project. With the opportunity to work alongside internationally renowned experts, you’ll contribute to the project by surveying sharks, their diversity and their behaviour. You’ll help assess the factors that are putting these beautiful beasts under threat and work in a shark nursery site to tag baby scalloped hammerhead sharks and observe their movements. You’ll get to do all of this while swimming in tropical waters amongst thousands of fish and living on the island of Beqa with local villagers and fellow volunteers.
The cost of volunteering on the Fiji Shark Conservation Project starts at £945pp for one week up to 20 weeks for £4,555pp. Included in the price is accommodation, food, training, diving equipment, boat transfer, 24-hour in-country support and pre-departure support. There are also opportunities to take a PADI course at an extra cost.
Fiji Teaching
Fiji is not only beautiful because of its location – its people are also some of the most welcoming and friendly in the world. Make a true difference to the locals by becoming a volunteer teacher. Not only will you have the chance to enjoy Fijian traditions such as fire dancing, beach parties and cuisine, you’ll get to teach schoolchildren, earning your TEFL certificate, marking pupils’ work, producing teaching strategies and lesson plans, preparing homework and enriching both yours and their lives, all on a tropical paradise!
