WATCH: Video Stores Get Explained To Modern Kids

Remember the devastating moment of strolling into Blockbuster on a Saturday night to rent out the newest movie, only to discover that all the copies had already been claimed? Or the anger that flooded through you when the last person to watch the tape you’d rented hadn’t rewound it?! Sigh, those were the days!

But here in the present day, it seems those memories are a long forgotten thing of the past, as the kids of today are completely unaware of the fun that was had browsing through thousands of titles with your own bare hands, and not a remote.

Youngsters aged 15 or below – we shall call them the ‘Netflix and iPad’ generation – have grown up surrounded by technology that eliminates that darn hassle of even having to leave the house, and with tiny iPods that can hold 60,000+ songs, they scoff in our faces at the thought of the mystical cassette player or Walkman. We mean, you used to actually carry CDs around with you?! Who does that, man?!

So BuzzFeed have introduced the kids of today to a short video explaining the ins and outs of the alien video store concept, hoping to educate their youthful minds about how tough their elders used to have it – before Apple ruled the world and we actually had to leave our houses from time to time.

Racking up over 600,000 views on YouTube already, the video seems a hit with older and younger generations alike – some wanting a wander down memory lane as they dramatically comment “it’s sad to see my childhood die!!”, and others who really do want to decipher what this ‘Vid-eo Store?’ we speak of actually is.

Kids today eh? They don’t even know they’re born!
