The best ways to cut your costs to travel

So, you want to travel but you have no money saved to go? You see your friends’ photos of them travelling the world, you see various Instagram and Facebook  travel photos and then you dream of where you want to go. Well … make it happen. The most difficult thing about going travelling is finding the money to do it. It’s a gigantic mountain to hike for sure, but it doesn’t have to be tough. With a few life-style changes and choices, you’ll be able to make your travel dreams become a reality in no time.

The following are some fab tips on ways to cut your costs to travel.

Research

It’s all well and good saying that you want to travel around Europe for instance but, first things first before you purchase flights, you need to spend a bit of time doing research. It may not sound too fun however, having an idea of where you want to go, how long you want to go for, the time of year, modes of transport, where you’ll stay, cost of food and drink and attractions, can all help you in the long run in regards to cash flow and how much you’ll need to save and then blow.  But hey, getting the inside scoop and knowledge of where you’ll be travelling to is fun and makes you get a tad giddy with excitement.

Saving Goals

After deliberating whether or not you can afford to go travelling, which you can, you’ll need to create a savings plan where you set yourself weekly/monthly saving goals. You need to take into consideration when you are likely to take your trip so you have a good idea of how much you need to save in a period time.  As the weeks and then months’ fly by, your strategy will progress as your spending habits change. Take a look at your advancement every month and inspect the budget for possible adjustments. With this you’ll also be able to realign your goals so you stay focussed with your eye on the prize.

Reduce the nights’ out

Yeah, we all like to par-taaaay but do we really need to go out every weekend and spend all of our hard-earned cash? Naaah. Alcohol is expensive and for a lot of us the more we drink the more loose we get with our wallets. Buying a heap of rounds just because we’re awesome and because we want to seems like the perfect excuse at the time. But waking up in the morning and seeing the dent in the bank account is just not cool. Cutting down on the number of beverages you consume is going to have a large impact on your budget. Just think, the less drinking you consume now, the more you can consume in Europe! Perhaps pre-load more before you have a night out or how about a good old-fashioned house party? Cheap as chips!

Adjust your eating habits

Who’s guilty of buying lunch every day, purchasing cheeky snacks on a regular basis or going out for dinner habitually because you deserve it? Yeah, we’re all guilty. Make time to make yourself your lunch and snacks so you can save those pennies. Even though those meal deals seem cheap at the time, once you’ve added them up for the week you’ve probably wasted a bit more money than you thought. Dinner dates, we all love them. But cut down! Perhaps limit a dinner out to twice a month.

Sell, Sell, Sell!

Over the years we become hoarders of clothes, shoes, accessories, books, furniture … everything! Sell all of your unwanted stuff online, garage sales and car boot sales. Any amount of money that you make can be put straight into your travel savings.

So, cutting costs, creating goals and budgeting can all seem hard at the time but, it will be worth it in the end! When you’re on your travelling escapades you’ll thank yourself for all of the effort you put into savings and all those nights in would have been worth it.  Spend your money on making memories that you’ll remember forever.
