Murder and Mayhem: Sydney’s Crime History. Every day: Sydney Custom House, NSW, 11am-4pm

IF YOU have been to Sydney Aquarium, you’ll have seen the grey nurse sharks swimming around waiting for their food.
Well, imagine if when you were there one of the sharks puked up a severed human arm.
That’s what happened to visitors to the Coogee Aquarium Baths back in 1935, when a captured tiger shark revealed it had been surviving on more than just a fish-based diet. On examination, the arm was discovered to have been cut off using a knife, and led to one of Sydney’s most notorious murder investigations.
Learn more about this and Sydney’s darker side at Customs House, 31 Alfred Street, Circular Quay.
There are free lectures, gory crime scene photos and film and computer workshops.
Or just go to Kings Cross.

Exposed! The story of swimwear

THE French are brilliant. Unlike the British, who still carry on about the war sixty-four years after it ended, they quickly put their minds to better use (ed – who hired this man? And how did he pass our ‘Do you hate the French?’ test).
In 1946 Louis Reard, a French engineer and absolute legend, invented the bikini and, consequently, increased the sales of sunglasses so men folk could ogle without appearing to be overly creepy. Of his creation, Reard said it wasn’t a true bikini “unless it could be pulled through a wedding ring”, and was made up of just 194cm² of material.
You can see Reard’s creation, as well as many others in the exhibition Exposed! The story of swimwear, at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour.
Also on display is the mankini, made famous by Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat, Daniel Craig’s budgie smugglers from Casino Royale, and the topless bikini, which isn’t quite as obvious as you might think.
Entry is free and the exhibition runs until 25th October.
