Experience Amazing Road Trips Across Australia!

Last year, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) revealed that 24% of survey respondents said they were vaccinated because they want to travel. ABS also revealed that more than a quarter of respondents plan to spend more time travelling locally in future, which isn’t surprising given the continent’s breath-taking scenery and incredible diversity. The best way to experience this is by making an epic road trip across Australia. Check out three amazing possibilities below.

Travel to Western Australia

Darwin To Adelaide

A journey of approximately 3,000km, the most popular Darwin to Adelaide road trip takes you mostly along the Stuart Highway. The route cuts across the outback, heading through the Northern Territory’s red earth and, eventually, into the verdant winelands of South Australia. The trip requires careful planning and refuelling whenever you get the chance, given the scarcity of petrol stations along the way. The extra think-work that goes into planning the road trip is worth it, given the experiences you can enjoy along the way. The Travel Intern recommends taking the time to explore Uluru in the heart of the Red Centre, visiting the opal mining town of Coober Pedy, exploring the Flanders Ranges National Park, and tasting wines in the gorgeous Barossa Valley.

Sydney To Perth

The Sydney to Perth route cuts across the southern part of the continent, taking you from the east to the west coast. The most direct route is just over 2,400km long, but you’ll probably want to make a few detours along the way. It’s a serious drive, so choose your vehicle carefully. When making your choice, think about comfort, performance, fuel efficiency, and what cars have the most expensive catalytic converters.

The National Roads and Motorists’ Association suggests making this route a 10-day road trip. Travel from Sydney to Dubbo on day one, then Dubbo to Cobar, Cobar to Broken Hill, Broken Hill to Port Augusta, and Port Augusta to Streaky Bay on day five. From there, do Streaky Bay to Eucla on day six, Eucla to Balladonia, Balladonia to Norseman, Norseman to Southern Cross, and Southern Cross to Perth on day 10.

Some of the highlights you can visit include the famous wine town of Mudgee, the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden, Nullarbor Plain and the head of the Great Australian Bight.

Cairns To Broome

The Cairns to Broome road trip is one to consider if you want to explore the northern part of the continent. Also known as the Savannah Way, it’s a 3,700km journey from east to west through dusty plains, wetlands teeming with life, 15 national parks, and five World Heritage sites.

According to Savored Journeys, there are several highlights along the way that are not to be missed. Among them are the Undara Lava Tubes, a Cobbold Gorge boat cruise, watching the sun set at Karumba Beach, and discovering the scenic Boodjamulla National Park.

No matter which of these amazing road trips across Australia you choose, your journey is bound to be an adventure that whets your appetite for more. Explore a continent like no other with a road trip you’ll never forget.
