Vivid Sydney 2016: Ones To Watch

Follow us on Google News

This years Vivid Sydney is fast approaching and so it’s time to take a look at who we think is worth seeing. They may not be the most underground artist but they are guaranteed to give an incredible show.

Bon Iver

Musical innovator Justin Vernon is bringing his new show, Cercle, to Sydney. Vernon has been concentrating on his other projects and keeping performances as Bon Iver to a minimum. But know he’s back to play music from the rural, allegoric For Emma, Forever Ago to the more expansive Bon Iver, Bon Iver. Vernon is a musical boundary pusher and a genre shaper. His shows are a full body experience.

Polica

Justin Vernon once called Polica “the best band i’ve ever heard”. That high praise but the Minnesota band are punchy enough to back it up. Their feisty lead singer Channy Leaneagh owns the stage in her attempt to to rebel against pop music and the way women are portrayed. Polica can be moody and atmospheric or blunt and in your face. Either way, their a bands band, and that can’t be a bad thing.

Kyle Hall

The latest golden son of Detroit’s rich musical history is Kyle Hall. Born and raised in Motor City Hall grew up around musical greats and by the time he was 13, he was making experimental electronic music. Hall is still ridiculously young and making unbelievable progress with an exciting, melodic brand of techno that makes his live show a real experience.

New Order

Out of the ashes comes a phoenix, as Joy Division finished, so New Order were born. One of the most important acts of the last 36 years, New Order’s live mix of their own music and takes on Joy Division tracks makes their live shows a must see. Their shows in Australia will include shows with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. New Order continue to be innovators and a key player in the history of music past and a important decider in the future of music.
