April Cinema Club ‘Fuck for Forest’ at Oval Space
Showing at Oval Space, ‘Fuck for Forest,’ is a documentary by young Polish director Michal Marczak. The film follows the Berlin based NGO with the same title, who raise money for the environment by selling homemade erotic films and photos on the Internet. Based on the idea that sex can save the world, the group is a colourful cast of characters who unite over shared beliefs of sexual liberation and global altruism. From the streets of Berlin to the depths of the Amazon, together they are on a planet-saving mission to buy a piece of forest and save indigenous people. When they finally are faced with the people they plan to save, however, noble ideas and reality meet.
The film itself contains remarkably stunning cinematography, winning ‘Best Feature Documentary’ at the Warsaw International Film Festival. And though the film is a wild adventure of sex, psychedelic drugs and tribal dancing, it is far from a gimmicky portrayal as the director seeks to capture honestly, without judgment, the story of these extraordinary people.
