Art After Hours Goes Retro
The after-dark staple of the Art Gallery Of NSW will be celebrating our favourite decades in January, looking at the cultural effects on art, music, fashion, icons and the public.
Art After Hours Goes Retro will look back at the 1950s, ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s on 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th January respectively. Go back to the ’50s when Elvis and Marilyn reigned with rock ‘n’ roll and sparkling diamonds, while the kids on the street wore poodle skirts and bobby socks and discovered something called pop art. A live rockabilly cover band will also be on hand to provide some entertainment.
One week later, celebrate the ’60s with Wendy Whiteley, wife and muse of artist, Brett Whiteley, and advertising executive, Leo Schofield, who looks backs at the Mad Men culture. On the 21st, the ’70s are welcomed with a look back at disco, punk, women’s rights and the fight for free education, and the 1980s ends the month with Romance Was Born designer, Luke Sales, to discuss the hits and misses of the fashion.
Take inspiration from each decade and dress to impress to be in with a chance of winning a UNIQLO prize.
