Australian Masters – 14th-17th November 2013
All golfing fanatics out there must know by now that Melbourne is one of the most cherished golfing destinations in the world. Melbourne is definitely the place to be this November, as not one, but two major gold championships will be held there.
The first being the 35th Australian Masters which will take place on the 14th-17th November 2013. The event has never been held at Royal Melbourne Golf Club before now but the setting is more than perfect for the occasion. Adam Scott, a fellow Australian golfer who is currently ranked second best worldwide will be returning in an attempt to defend his title. Greg Norman, also an golfer from down under, is the only player ever in the Australian Masters to successfully do so.
Secondly, the Royal Melbourne Golf Club will be hosting the World Cup of Golf which will start just four days after the previous event has ended on the 21st November 2013 and will end on the 24th November. American Matt Kuchar, Italy’s Matteo Manassero and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee are confirmed golfers to be competing in the championships.
The reason why the Royal Melbourne Golf Club has been chosen for two such prestigious events is simple. It is Australia’s oldest golf club. It was formed back in 1981 and relocated in 1901 to Black Rock on Melbourne’s golden sand belt, a short drive south from the heart of the city. The club was designed in 1926 by talented architect Alister Mackenzie who created one of the seven wonders of the golfing world, so hat’s off to him!
However, there is not just one glorious golf club that Melbourne has to offer, but a whole range to choose from for any golfer. The legend that is Mackenzie also designed another very prestigious golf club. Kingston Health Golf Club with has been placed in the number two spot as Australia’s best golf course. In addition, the Victoria Golf Club which is situated in the centre of the sand belt and also boasts 15 boutique rooms for golfers who wish to stay overnight. The Metropolitan has recently transformed its club house into a wonderful place for any golfer to pick up their clubs. The host of Australia Masters first ever championships, the Huntingdale Golf Club is also a great place to play the sport. Also on Melbourne’s sand belt are Commonwealth, a newly renovated Yarra Yarra and The Peninsula Country Golf Club.
