Balance: Patrice Bäumel

Amsterdam’s Patrice Bäumel joins Magda, Stacey Pullen, Guy J, Fur Coat and many more as the next compiler in the Balance mix series.

Baumel’s repertoire is an impressive one, with releases on Kompakt, !K7, Get Physical, My Favorite Robot and Systematic as well as residencies at some of the world’s best clubs, Club 11 and Trouw. The proof is in the pudding, and his album ‘Vapour’ also received critical acclaim for its emotive and the technical flair.

Now, Bäumel has curated a compilation, choosing songs that will stand the test of time, “that way I knew that I had a lasting relationship with them and not just a brief fling.” His Balance mix sets to be a classic go-to, featuring tracks from Nils Frahm, FKA Twigs, Plastikman, Underworld and M83. As with all Balance series, it will feature exclusive tracks from Bäumel, ‘Departure’ and his remix of Underworld’s Bird 1. Putting his all into the mix, he pushed his own limits saying, “The difference between 95% and 100% is simply enormous.” The difference is using harmonic matching, automation, transposing looping, editing and was finally passed through an analogue mixer to make sure the end product is a listening experience unparalleled by any other inconsequential dj mix.
