Best Backpacking Tips For Fiji
Beautiful Fiji really couldn’t look more like paradise, with crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and palm trees it is almost exactly like the old Bounty advert. These gorgeous islands are incredibly peaceful and the ideal location to visit if you have been backpacking before and are looking for somewhere new.
It is actually made up of 322 islands but some are incredibly small so it’s best to visit Vita Levu and Vanua Levu, which are the 2 biggest islands.
Vita Levu, the biggest of the two, really is a restful sanctuary. When you feel relaxed and stress free head to the Fiji Museum where you can find out about Fiji’s archaeology, politics and culture, giving you a huge insight into the islands and their native people. Then head to Kula Eco Park wildlife sanctuary where you can get up close and personal with snakes, cross rope bridges and see rare exotic flowers. Head back to Horizon Backpackers or The Beachhouse which are both clean and cheerful before going to dinner at Eat Blue Bure for fish and fresh shellfish.
Vanua Levu is less touristy and therefore somewhere that only the keenest of travellers really visit but there is still lots to be enjoyed. Make the most out of the river and go on Rafas Adventure Tours where you can see rare fish in the crystal clear water. For a little more adventure try scuba diving, where you can get a closer look at the coral reef, or white water rafting, for a more energetic experience. Stay at the Kingfisher Beach House right on the river or the Bayside Camping Cottage which really is a cosy home from home and sleeps two people.
Just before heading to bed go to the Nakawaga Waterfall where you can stand back and admire the view. Fiji is a real hidden gem and an ideal location for a seasoned traveller looking for paradise.
