Best Places To Dive In Northern Western Australia Diving at Rottnest Island The diversity of fish, coral species and shipwrecks in the waters around Rottnest Island make it one of the most fascinating dive sites to be found in such close proximity to a capital city. For this reason, many dive operators based on the mainland conduct day trips and dives at Rottnest Island.

With rich limestone reefs carved into intricate formations by the ocean, Rottnest is surrounded by great dive locations.  There are several dive sites ranging in depth to pick from, Rottnest is a great choice for novice to experienced divers.

Marmion Marine Park

Located off Perth’s north-west coastline, Marmion Marine Park offers a range of great sites for scuba divers of any experience level. With clear, shallow lagoons and small islands, this local dive location offers some great underwater sights including swim-throughs, caves and a diverse range of sea life.

Located a few hours south of Perth is one of the largest accessible dive wrecks in the Southern Hemisphere, the HMAS Swan. In 1997, the Swan sunk off the coast of Dunsborough to be used as a dive wreck. The ship now sits about 30m underwater and requires an Advanced Open Water Dive ticket or higher to visit.

The Lena

The Lena shipwreck site off the coast of Bunbury possessing quite an interesting history. The ship was specifically requested to be sunk off Bunbury’s coastline by the city and now lies 18m down, just a few kilometers offshore and offers divers a wonderful setting.

Key Biscayne

The Key Biscayne is a great northern dive location to visit. The dive site is home to an old upside-down oil rig 42m below surface. The shallowest part of the rig sits at 26m so it is an excellent dive location for a certified Deep Diver or higher to explore.
