P.J.O’Brien’s
Get into P.J’s for ‘The Best Sunday Roasts in Town’
Roast Beef or Chicken served with creamy mash, Yorkshire pudding, roasted chats, seasonal vegetables and gravy for just $19.
Much like the P.J.O’Brien’s in Sydney, you get a range of roasts to choose from at the branch at Southbank in Melbourne. The roasts come with all the trimmings here: roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and gravy. Food is served from midday until late and will only cost you $19.00, leaving you some change leftover for drinks after the meal. If you’re feeling a bit on the wild side and fancy a change, try PJ’s kangaroo fillet from the char grill.

The Roast Kitchen
The best roast in Melbourne… or it’s free! Apparently. Aptly named, this little gem in Kew is a winner when it comes to roast dinners. For $19.50 (or $27 if you want to go large) it’s great value too. Beef, pork, lamb, chicken; this place has a range of meats for you to choose from all served with steamed vegetables, roast potatoes, and their very own red wine gravy. There’s also a vegetarian option and you can eat in or take away. And if that wasn’t enough, it has a BYO policy. So, when are you going?

Reddy Roasts
Here’s a thing – have you ever thought about getting a take-away roast dinner? Picture the scene: it’s a cold Monday evening and the rain is lashing at the window. There’s nothing in the fridge and you don’t want to leave the warmth of your home to buy some grub. Reddy Roasts is the answer. The price for a roast dinner ranges from $9.90 (small) to $16.50 (large) and the dinner is delivered to your house with seasonal veg and their special gravy, piping hot. It’s healthy, nutritious fast food (we didn’t think we’d ever say that).
There are five different Reddy Roasts locations, so check the website for your local.

The Elephant and Wheelbarrow
From 12pm – 4pm every Sunday you can get a cracking roast dinner at The Elephant and Wheelbarrow. Boasting a traditional English menu, this pub goes all out with its carvery, with the standard British procedure of paying a set price and then filling up your plate with as much food as possible. Each carvery comes with a complimentary half pint of Guinness, house wine or soft drink. We recommend booking ahead with this place as it’s quite popular.

Bridie O’Reilly’s serve a traditional roast dinner all day on a Sunday, from lunchtime until 9pm, so even if you decide last minute that you want a taste from home and abandon your pasta, you’ll still get served. They offer two different roasts for $20 each and you have a choice of a free pot of James Squire or glass of wine with your food. Bridie O’Reilly’s also have a wide range of beers, other traditional meals and live music – all served up in a cosy atmosphere.

Libertine
Libertine is a French dining room, and unfortunately one where you can’t really pop in on a Sunday evening for a pint and a roast. However, the restaurant offers a whole suckling pig for tables of 10 or more, served with ‘seasonal accompaniments’ and professionally carved. This will set you back $80 per person, but for that price, you get a choice of three entrees and three desserts, so that’s not so bad. If you like making food an experience, then this banquet will surely be one to remember. Just make sure you order one week in advance.

Sound good? You can get a roast here with pudding for $55, or include a boutique beer or local wine for an extra $15. This one really is worth checking out.
