Bok Bok
BBM’s Hannah Beesley asks Bok Bok 5 straight questions… and more importantly about his upcoming set at Standon Calling.
1. Your label Night Slugs is going from strength to strength at the moment, what’s coming up for you guys (releases, new artists, nights)?
Well Jam City’s new EP just dropped today, it’s called “Waterworx” and I like it very much. Our release schedule is taking a break for the summer but we’ll be back in September/October with an EP from Kingdom.
2. For people unfamiliar with Bok Bok, how would you describe your sound and what can we expect from your set at Standon Calling?
I make tracks inspired by a lot of differnt things, but mostly grime and acid house. When I DJ you get the full spectrum of those inspirations. I play bass-heavy rhythm tracks with some specially selected ecstasy moments.
3. At Sonar you were playing in a huge aircraft hangar next to some dodgems (great set by the way). How do you find adapting to festivals/different spaces compared to playing in clubs?
Thank you. My default environment for a set is in a dark basement but I love the idea of music in strange and exotic locations. The funfair stage at SonarCar was amazing for that reason. I also love playing outdoors at night.
4. When you’re not playing/producing/running the label, what gets you dancing?
I love it when I see the kind of DJ set that will make me dance. Great house music will always do it. Also I was lucky enough to play with Slimzee recently and he’s definitely still got it, I was going off.
5. The theme for Standon Calling is Gods and Monsters. What costume will you be wearing?
Maybe I should come as a huge Mishka eyeball
