Camping tours on Fraser Island Things to know
One of the most picturesque and exciting destinations in Australia, when camping on Fraser Island there are a few things to know before bedding down for the night.
When it comes to camping on Fraser Island, there are around 45 campsites to choose from, so you’ll never be short of options. In order to camp on Fraser Island you’ll need a permit from the Department of Environment and Resource Management. You will need to purchase one to camp anywhere on the island. You’ll need to make sure your permit is secured to the outside of your tent so that the rangers can make sure you’re “legal”. When purchasing your permit, you should also get a Fraser Island info pack that will have a map of the island as well as a camping tag and vehicle permit. So as long as all your ducks are in a row, you should be able to camp hassle free!
Probably the second biggest consideration to take when camping on Fraser is the fact that there are dingos. So choose a fenced camp site if you don’t want to run into any dingos during the night. If, of course you want to be at one with nature, then you can camp in unfenced sites, and you should spot a few dingos at dusk and dawn. Remember, it is illegal to interact with the dingoes and you could be fined as much as up to $3000, so respect their space.
