Celebrate Cinco de Mayo!
Our favourite Mexican celebration, Cinco de Mayo, is coming up! Spanish for “fifth of May” Cinco de Mayo is internationally celebrated to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy following the American Civil War. Whether you’re going out, or hosting a Cinco de Mayo fiesta, we’ve got you covered on everything from music to attire. Let’s celebrate all things Mexican!
Things To Do:
– Chances are your favourite local Mexican restaurant is hosting a special night to celebrate the day. Check out some local listings and stuff yourself with some delicious cuisine and drinks.
– If you prefer, stay in and host your own party. Put up some traditional Mexican decorations, hire the Mariachi band and celebrate with pals (and tequila).
What To Drink:
Who doesn’t love a good shot of Tequila? Okay, maybe six or seven. Here’s a list of the best and most scrumptious Tequila that’ll have you on the floor this May 5th.
Piedra Azul Reposado
Distinguido Blanco
Ocho Curado Agave-Infused Tequila
3 Amigos Anejo Tequila
Why not try one of these in a Pink Lion cocktail?
1 ounce Tequila
1 ounce lemon juince
1 ounce St-Germain Elderflower liqueur
½ ounce Lillet Blanc
½ ounce Hum Liqueur
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice. Shake well and strain over ice. Garnish with lemon twist.
What To Eat:
We want your Cinco de Mayo fiesta to host the best bites. Here are some of our favourite feasts to include.
What To Wear:
Cinco de Mayo is all about being traditional. Unless you actually want to look like a Mariachi Band, stick to patterns and bright colours (specifically red, green and white). Yes, you can still wear the massive sombrero you’ve had in the attic collecting dust – just accompany it with a poncho and black moustache to complete that (cliché) look.
What To Listen To:
What would a party be without a bit of music? For your fiesta, we recommend this Cinco De Mayo compilation full of the best Latin boom boom beats.
