Christian Burkhardt Interview
One DJ that is not bound by restraints or content with anything less than 100% is Christian Burkhardt. His signature sound is heard throughout Europe and influential to the global electronic community. In comparison to generic club music that has found its way onto mainstream radio and playlists (which he despises), Burkhardt pays particular attention to complex rhythms that aim to move your body, mind and soul. 2010 finally saw the release of his debut album, ‘Revolver’, which only increased his passion, cemented his sound and continued the support of some of the best in the business. We certainly saw his love and pride in his work when we chatted to him…
You’re part of an exclusive group of acts to be playing at Cocoon in Ibiza for 2013. What can we expect from your set?
Christian Burkhardt Interview. I just programmed a brand new set which give me a lot of jam options. I will come with my bigger set-up to Amnesia, drum computers, bass machines and fx.
Cocoon is one of Ibiza’s best loved underground parties, what are your views on dance music’s explosion into the mainstream and how has it effected the underground scene?
Yeah that is really dangerous for our scene, the music is getting flatter and the character is missing; it all sounds the same. In one or two years maybe everybody will be bored of that sound – then we have to start from scratch.
Are you working on any collaborations at the moment?
Sascha Dive and I just finished the first release on Freebase Records, and I am also doing music with Chris Tietjen.
What are your plans for the European festival season?
There are some nice gigs coming up – Click in the Dunes, Amsterdam beachside, Sónar festival, Fuse, Papaya festival in Croatia, Ibiza, and so on. A lot of work and no holidays for me this summer.
What is the biggest track you are playing right now?
‘Seamless Pattern’ on Pressure Traxx.
