Comicus Erectus – The Ethnic Comedy Evolution
After conquering Adelaide Fringe and garnering four star reviews, the hilariously titled “Comicus Erectus – The Ethnic Comedy Evolution” is taking Melbourne by storm, selling out venues in its first week and selling out its first Melbourne International Comedy Festival weekend, and more shows added by popular demand.
Comicus Erectus offers a fresh new take on ethnic humour with the four stars Joe Avati, George Kapiniaris, Basile and MC Tahir telling hilarious tales of family, school and their respective neighbourhoods, bringing to mind the adage, “it’s funny because it’s true”.
And it’s not just about stand-up…. The guys show off their musical prowess, with George Kapiniaris channeling hi srole of Riff Raff in The Rocky Horror Show and impressive opera-trained vocals from New Yorker, Basile.
Comicus Erectus – The Ethnic Comedy Evolution is now showing in Melbourne’s suburbs and key city venues up until April 15th, inclusive.
Kapiniaris is arguably one of the most recognized faces on Australian television and best-known as Memo from Acropolis Now. International comedy superstar from Australia, Joe Avati, laughingly refers to himself as “the most famous comedian you’ve never heard of”, referring to his massive following in Canada, where he holds records for being the fastest selling stand-up comedian and having a top selling comedy album. Joe is a food fanatic and a qualified food scientist. We have him to thank for his part in the creation of the iconic Streets Magnum! Direct from New York is Emmy Award-winning Basile – who has garnered a worldwide fan base amongst the English speaking Greek community and if you ask him nicely, might just do his famous Bullwinkle J Moose voice … he IS the voice of the much-loved cartoon character for Universal!
As host of “Comicus Erectus”, Turkish Australian comedy sensation Tahir, will have you on the floor, with his quick wit that made him a favourite with the Gen Ys through his regular appearances on Fat Pizza, Swift & Shift and Housos.
Evolving from the tried and true wog gags of the 80s and 90s, “Comicus Erectus – The Comedy Evolution” sees each of these comics getting up and performing their hilarious routines about growing up with an ethnic background, whilst setting out to prove that wog humour has moved on from fluffy dice and Monaros. This is “WOG” in the modern era. A surprise finish will see the fab four unite for a finale that has the audience in stitches until the very end.
Don’t miss out!
