It hosts art galleries such as the Australia Centre for the Moving Image, showcasing cinematic history alongside interactive exhibits. Admission is free except for a few special exhibitions.
The National Gallery of Victoria, Australia and the Ian Potter Centre with its exceptional indigenous art collection are also near Federation Square and are a great place to hang out on the weekend. The coolest hang out is also a great kick off place to start your journey to other local areas of interest; the Tourist Information Centre is just there to point you in the right direction. Free WIFI at the square comes in handy too, if you need to send emails and update Facebook while checking out top attractions, this is where to do it, and you won’t be alone with most people browsing their phones or laptops.

The summer lunch time busking series presents Melbourne’s premier musician buskers every Friday and there’s free Salsa Classes every Tuesday evening for those with two left feet, or if you just want to sit back and listen to the beats that’s cool too.
