Fiji Islands Tours Travel. Suva is the capital of the islands and is only a four hour drive from Nadi. One of the things we liked about this place is that it’s incredibly laid-back for a capital city. It’s amazing to see people actually smile in a city and that alone is worth the visit. Although Suva is hardly comparable to Sydney or Melbourne (for better or worse),

It’s rather sophisticated compared to the rest of the pacific island cities. The party-lovers won’t be hard pressed to find plenty of nightlife here, so live it up. There is also a great municipal market during the day that offers some fine shopping if you’re into that sort of thing. You can also find the Museum of Fiji here and a crowd-free, Olympic sized outdoor pool, which is a grand place to go when you need to cool off, and you will need to.

Lau Group

THERE are 57 nearly deserted islands in the far southwest corner of Fiji that are known as the Lau Group. In this group you will find seemingly endless bays, beaches, hilly ascents, and landscapes that appear to have never been explored by anyone. You’ll find this group in between Viti Levu and Tonga and the influence is quite apparent. You will find Tongan influence in the names, language, architecture, and especially food. The area is very isolated and tourism is not common at all in these parts. So why are we even telling you about it? Well, the remoteness of this group of islands is hard to find safely and it is truly amazing to explore a place where nobody else you know would ever been. Basically, if you head out this way you’ll have permission to act as smug as you like when you return home, and that feeling is hard to top.

Taveuni

BEST described as a tropical flower garden on land and a coral garden underneath the sea, Taveuni is one of the best islands Fiji has to offer. Visitors can arrive by boat or plane from Vanua Levu and with its small, uncrowded atmosphere you’ll realise that it’s well worth the trip. Upon arriving at this place you will see a very unique sight, the black sand beaches, which are evidence of the island’s volcanic past. But there are also white sand sanctuaries at Lavena and Matei that are especially good for swimming and snorkelling. If you’ve made it here then you should definitely visit the Somosomo straight for some one-of-a-kind scuba diving/snorkelling of the Rainbow Reef. Although if you don’t want to get wet you can take a hike on the Lavena Coastal Walk that has so many memorable views that you might not be able to remember anything else. Even though photos cannot truly capture the beauty of this place, be sure to bring a camera to give it your best effort as there will be many photo opportunities along the way. The walk can get hot so it’s not a bad idea to cool down in the waterfall pool afterwards. Yes, there is a waterfall pool here and it is so picturesque that you’ll feel like your starring in a Hollywood film without all of the superficial bollocks. The Waitabu Marine Park is also a great destination to visit and you’ll learn all kinds of things about the conservation of the reef here. The only downside of this area is the rain, and there is a lot of it. However, it’s the rain that helps maintain the area’s lush beauty, so bring an umbrella and stop whining.
