Young Lions To Release Debut Album ‘Burn’
You’d be forgiven for never having heard of Brisbane band, Young Lions. The band only played their first live show earlier this year and are still relatively new to the music circuit. This doesn’t mean that their debut album packs any less of a punch though. Released on the 4th of October and produced by Sonny Truelove, ‘Burn’ is set to make sure that these boys have something to shout about.
It’s sometimes not that wise to label a band Pop-Rock. It has a stigma attached to it that seems to indicate this genre is ‘not quite cool enough’ to be admitted into the upper echelons of Rock royalty, and not… umm… popular enough to be Pop. Throw out those preconceptions and listen to ‘Burn’. It’s Rock and Pop in equal measure and does the job quite nicely.
Fearless tracks ‘The Runner and the Fighter’ and ‘Before The Storm’ provide enough angry guitar to thrash your way through many a bad day, whilst ‘Sleepless Rest’ and ‘Frail Futures’ are better for a slightly more upbeat bop. They’re still gloomy of course, and very angry but much of Rock is so you’ll have to forgive them for that.
Essentially, if you like Oh Sleeper, Lydia and Senses Fail then you’ll like these guys. ‘Burn’ is a success in that it provides a decent antidote to a lot of the boring and sometimes (dare I say) mindless fluff that’s around at the minute. Don’t expect crazy originality (a lot of it has been done before) but do expect catchy tunes, sweet riffs and just the right balance of Rock-Pop awesomeness.
Catch the guys at Brisbane’s Beetle Bar to launch the album on the 4th of October 2014. Tickets are available from Oztix.
