Generik Interview
Generik is trying and succeeding to crack America. The Australian native has moved to LA and got himself a Las Vegas residency. We spoke to Generik about life in the US and life in general.
Your work ethic is something that should be admired. How do you juggle producing in the day and DJ’ing at night – is there any free time for Generik?
Hahaha yeah there is always free time. If you didn’t relax and chill and just worked 24/7 you’d go mad! You just have to find the right balance that works for you! I love playing playstation, thats my vice
You’ve got plenty of US tour dates coming up with your residency in OMNIA, Las Vegas, but which other US city are you most excited to be playing?
I’m so excited to be playing at Lollapalooza in Chicago. I’ve never been to Chicago and only heard amazing things, not to mention playing main stage at Lolla is a dream come true! Every new city I go to though I’m excited about, I love travelling and playing my music to new friends!
Being a Melbourne native how much does it mean to you to get to play the main stage at Stereosonic in Melbourne?
It was a great honour! Stereosonic was such a major part of the Australian Dance Music scene, they bought some of the biggest artists to Australia for the first time and to share the stage and many beers with those guys / girls was awesome!
You have recently adopted Los Angeles as your new home, what brought about this move? How are you enjoying your time in the states?
Scoring my residency in Vegas kind of made the decision pretty easy hahaha. Flying from Melbourne to Vegas every week wasn’t really a smart option so I made the move and haven’t looked back. I’m loving the states and giving it a real crack over here. I’m very much looking forward to coming home for the Australian summer though!
Calvin Harris handpicked you himself for your residency in Las Vegas, how did that come about? Do you know each other well?
We met at stereosonic and stayed in contact ever since. I’m so grateful for the opportunity.
Is Calvin someone you look up to in the dance music world?
Of course, the guy is a hit machine! His work ethic is incredible and he’s super humble.
You’re new single ‘Late At Night’ has gone down a treat, is the track’s “feel good” theme something we can expect from the rest of your new music?
100%!! I’m a very happy guy and I want others to be happy whilst watching me DJ or listening to my music! I’m very serious about my music but it’s to be enjoyed!
What do you enjoy most about being a DJ?
The fact it’s my job. I get to do something that I love every day and get paid for it! In that aspect I’m extremely lucky, but those who know will know how hard I work.
Thanks so much for talking to us!
