Interview With Jamie Lawson

Follow us on Google News

UK singer/songwriter Jamie Lawson made a huge first impression and gathered thousands of new fans when he first toured Australia last April as Ed’s very special guest on his sold-out arena tour.

Now, off the back of chart-topping single Wasn’t Expecting That (watch him perform it live here) and his recently released self-titled album, Jamie is making a triumphant return to the Australian stage. With an insane performance in Perth already behind, we caught up with Jamie to find out more about his current tour and what his plans are.

Hey Jamie thanks for taking the time to talk to us! How are you doing today?

I’m all good thank you! Just busy rehearsing for the tour.

You’ve just kicked off your Australian National Tour, are you excited to be playing in Australia? You’ve got such a big fan base, does it make you proud?

Absolutely! I’ve played in Perth already but I’m both nervous and excited to be in Australia. And yes, very!

You’ve played with Taylor Swift and One Direction, who would you like to get involved with next?

I’ve just come off a tour with Vance Joy so to be honest I’m actually looking forward to doing my own tour for a while.

Your chart topping single: “Wasn’t Expecting That” has become huge. Did you ever expect to become so successful?

I guess I can’t really tell if I’m successful or not, because I’ve never heard it on the radio! But then people do tell me it is all the time, which is nice.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

More touring, lots of writing, and to make a new record to be released early next year. It’s exciting! Fingers crossed.

Ed Sheehan said he got emotional listening to your music! Does it feel surreal being signed by Gingerbread Man Records?

A little bit yes. I never ever thought I’d get my big break through a global superstar!

Do you plan to see any of Australia whilst you’re out there or is most of it going to be spent working?

I think it’s all going to be spent working unfortunately. That’s the touring life for you though, and I’m happy doing it!

Thanks for chatting to us and good luck with the tour!

Tour Dates:

Tuesday 12 April – The Gov, Adelaide

Friday 15 April – The Triffid, Brisbane

Saturday 16 April – Metro Theatre, Sydney

Tuesday 19 April – Forum Theatre, Melbourne
