Kings Cross Records Opening
Kings Cross Studios played host to the hottest opening night in town last Thursday (26th) evening as the cities top urban performers gathered for the unveiling of the newest, and hippest, music label; Kings Cross Records.
The label is the brainchild of Lewis Khan, John Vamos and Grammy award-winning artist, Chauncey Black (of “Blackstreet” fame), whereby a need was recognized to support Australia’s un-tapped urban pop talent.
In between here and the US, where Black is based, the trio went about putting together an in-house artist development and mentorship program, utilizing Black’s contacts to bring top US produce Jhot along with Australian Astrid Holz.

The first signed act of Kings Cross Records is Sydney’s very own Lily V. The 17-year-old carried all the swagger, attitude and self-belief which, I would suggest, was largely part of the strong team behind her.
With her single “Tattoos” due to be released April 2015, this was a chance for Lily and Co. to demonstrate to the public, other artists and media, what lies ahead for the brand.
Lily stormed through her single and looked a natural on stage. With the beats laid down by Jhot and having been introduced by MC for the evening Rodney O (Kiss 106.5), the party had well and truly started.
As the rest of the boys from Blackstreet are due to touch down on Australian soil for their April tour (taking in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth), this will be a chance to push the new record label as Lily V opens as main support.

Watch this space. A little bit of gold-dust from the Blackstreet boys, mixed with the entrepreneurship of those on-board, this could be the start of something new and refreshing for the urban-nites in Sydney. No diggity, no doubt.
