Londoners Could Be Killed By Pavements

The world appears to be getting less and less trustworthy by the minute, and now, the good people of London can’t even trust the simple pavement.

Previously the pal of pedestrians – keeping them safe from oncoming traffic as well as being lined with our favourite shops – Londoners are now at risk of being killed in one of the increasing number of pavement explosions.

In 2010, there were 12 underground explosions reported to the Health and Safety Executive, but these figures more than tripled between 2011 and 2012. And, so far this year, there have been 12 explosions.

Some of these explosions have occurred in Pimlico, Harrow, Edgware Road and St John’s Way, so it may be wise to avoid travelling in or around these areas.

The pavement blasts can be caused by an electrical fault, often when water has seeped into cables, or by a gas leak which has been ignited by a spark underground, say UK Power Networks.

Although no-one has actually died as a result of any previous blasts, it is vital that we spread the pavement panic and – should you have to leave the house – ensure that you hover above the ground at all times.

Reports that pavements, tired of being so mistreated, have taken to acts of terrorism were unconfirmed at the time of going to press.
