Mental Patient Outfits Are A No-No For Supermarkets, So Are Gay Best Friends

Inflatable gay best friendIt’s not even October yet but Halloween is already causing chaos. Surprisingly, this bedlam is not being caused by grumpy old men who are traumatised at the prospect of having to open their doors and feed sweets to strange children; but by the supermarkets.

Yep, both Tesco and Asda have had a bit of a bumpy ride this week in regards to their, let’s call them novel, Halloween costume ideas.

Both companies have been widely criticised for their insensitivity towards all those in the population who suffer from mental illnesses, after they named their vile looking Halloween outfits ‘mental patient fancy dress costume’ and ‘psycho ward outfit’ respectively.

Asda’s outfit featured an array of blood on a ragged white coat along with the perfect accessory, a meat cleaver; while Tesco opted for an orange boiler suit with plastic jaw restraint and machete to match. Both get-ups have since been withdrawn from sale.

The whole issue has kicked up a stink and divided opinion, with some feeling that the costumes are horribly offensive to sufferers of mental illness, while others are frustrated at this display of political correctness gone mad (excuse the pun).

Both supermarkets have now offered generous donations to mental health charities, in the hope that it will make the situation go away.

But unfortunately this won’t cut the mustard for Tesco, who have also been foiled for selling further inappropriate paraphernalia on their site. The latest find is an inflatable gay best friend; although the word gay was actually spelt ‘g*y’ in Tesco’s description, because apparently this is an offensive term.

You can see why they stocked such an item; it was bound to be a best seller with its claims to have “a great sense of humour”, that it “gives great fashion advice”, and most importantly that he will always tell you if your bum looks big.

Even better, the inflatable g*y best friend was listed as being suitable for ages 3-4, so we know it’s not a hazard and that’s a relief. It’s just a shame Tesco have now taken the listing down from their site. It is, however, still being sold on Amazon, where stock is currently running low (there’s only two left, so get yours quick).
