Mia Dyson At Newtown Social Club Review
With her sultry and gritty style, Mia Dyson treated her endearing fans to an intimate night of blues, rock and a whole lotta attitude at Newtown Social Club.
Support provided by the brilliant Justin & Ashleigh, whose travel-inspired tracks from New York to Japan, California and back to Australia were performed to perfection, with Ashleigh counter-balancing Justin’s almost grunge-like voice with her own, stunning sound. It simply made you want to pick up your guitar, grab your backpack, and go explore the big, wide world out there.
As for the main draw, Dyson and bandmates provided the perfect accompaniment to the small venue which is fast becoming the go-to spot for the best live music here in Sydney.
Guitar in hand, Dyson tore through her set of new tracks from recently released album, ‘Idyllwild’, plus older tunes that still sound as punchy and fresh now as they did when first released.
It is hard pressed to not like Dyson, however, it did make you feel that there is perhaps more available up her sleeve, just to push on with that little something extra.
This is not to take anything away from her and for any aspiring new bands, singer/songwriters out there, they could do no harm in taking note of Dyson’s style. She was already good with previous album ‘The Moment’ – here’s hoping she can move on further with new outing ‘Idyllwild’.
