Moby – The Right Thing
Undeterred by the lukewarm, to outright negative critical reception received for his latest album
Destroyed, electronic music’s Mr Marmite, Moby, has announced plans for a new single from that
LP.
‘The Right Thing’ is just about the best song on the hugely disappointing “Soundtrack for empty cities at 2am” he called Destroyed. The propulsive beat, unusual and repetitive electronic rhythms plus flashes of classic piano and strings provide the base for regular touring companion Inyang Bassey’s powerful vocal performance.
Bassey’s input lifts the song above the average Moby effort, and the single’s decreased length from the album version ensures it doesn’t overstay its welcome.
It is unquestionable that Moby and his music are very much an acquired taste, and long-time fans of the bald, electronic weirdo will no doubt find much to enjoy here and on the parent album, but those with not so warm feelings towards him will likely not rush to buy or download this.
‘The Right Thing’ is set for release on December 12th 2011.
Check it out for yourself.
