NoMBe Interview
Slick and sultry with a tight production, NoMBe is a German-born, LA-based producer who intertwines IDM, indie and soul to create such tracks as ‘California Girls’, and the newly released, ‘Kemosabe’. With a successful 2015 under his belt and an exciting 2016 predicted, we caught up with him for a chat.
Hi Noah, how are you? Where in the world are you at the moment?
I’m great, can’t wait to get back in the studio though! I’m currently in NYC getting ready for the Chicago show on the 16th.
You’re originally from Germany and now living in California. Which one do you call home?
Both to be honest. Cali is where I live and work, but Germany will always be my roots, of course. It’s just a place I know so well…
When did you start making music and what or who were your early influences?
I began making music consistently when I was about 12. My early influences were Nujabes, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Quantic… a lot of boom bap, trip-hop stuff…
Congratulations on the release of your new single ‘Kemosabe’. How did you come up with that name?
I read the word “Kemosabe” while working on the song and had to look it up. It is a term of endearment for a friend and ironically it just fit the song perfectly!
How would you describe the sound of the single?
Bumpin, soulful – “two-steppy” if that’s a thing?
You’re currently touring the US. What do you like most about performing live?
I love when the whole crowd sings the records with me. It makes me feel like I’ve done my job, especially on Miss Mirage. Feeling the energy and seeing people dance is pretty awesome too!
What’s in store for NoMBe for 2016?
More music! My EP dropping very soon, an album if all goes well and some more surprises I can’t give up just yet.
