What: OBITS with special guests
When: Friday 24 August, 2012
Price: $35.00 ($3.00 bf)

Obits are a Brooklyn-based mildly mannered, shaggy garage, punk-rock four piece, heading south of the equator on their first Australian tour. As a band, the Obits are but wee infants, yet, as a ‘muso’ collective they have a smashing long pedigree. Fronted by singer/writer/guitarist Rick Froberg (Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu, Pitchfork), the band have two albums out on the suitably pedigreed SubPop label distributed by Inertia in Australia. With a stripped-down rock sound, incorporating elements of surf and garage, the band’s repertoire of three-minute yowlers, sutures a sweet and sonic sound.

What: HAYES CARLL with Kirsty Akers
When: Saturday 25 August, 2012
Price: $28.00 ($3.00 bf) / $32 on the door

Hayes Carll hasn’t been resting on his laurels since topping critics’ polls and winning awards for his 2008 album, ‘Trouble in Mind’. Instead, he’s been on the road nearly nonstop with his band, blasting through honky tonks and rock clubs across the U.S. and beyond. Along the way he’s been inspired to write a crop of new tunes that the acclaimed songwriter says are “a layman’s take on our country – a snapshot of America in some small way.” The result is the sharply drawn collection ‘KMAG YOYO (& Other American Stories)’ comprising fiery rock, twangy country, pensive folk and even a touch of gospel.

X Tujiko’ with Tyme, the leader of electronica, dub, and jazz band MAS. After six years of occasional collaboration, they recently released their first album ‘GYU’ (Edition Mego). Having collaborated with various artists worldwide over the past decade, Tujiko is now aiming to provide more beat-oriented, yet still very experimental electro-pop.

When: Thursday 30 August, 2012
Price: $10.00 ($3.00 bf) / $15 on the door

Exploding onto the music scene like an indie Batman, The Universal composes music that pensioners have been caught referring to as a “racket”. The Universal’s music features jangly, angular guitars, driving beats and an energetic lead vocalist who sounds like he’s had too many coffees on the morning of recording and has developed a stutter as a result. The boys’ new single ‘Sexual Intellectual’ recently had its first debut on Triple J and is available for free download at Triple J Unearthed.

What: GIN WIGMORE (‘Gravel & Wine Tour’) with Jackson McLaren & The Triple Threat and special guest
When: Friday 31 August, 2012
Price: $20.00 ($3.00 bf) / $25 on the door

Starting out playing shows to around 10 people every Wednesday night when she was just 12, Gin Wigmore moved to Sydney after winning a song contest. Her debut album, ‘Holy Smoke’, took grip on her homeland for a hearty year of praise, adulation and radio saturation. A US deal with Motown followed along with a smattering of awards, prompting Gin to begin working on album number two in the USA. Gin wore her fingers down to a callous state writing with all sorts of people and her hard work paid off with the 11 songs making up ‘Gravel & Wine’, that have the love of a cowboy, bathe in a little lonesome blues, dance to a touch of rock ‘n’ roll and have the swagger of a woman past midnight.
