One To Watch: Dez Mensa
R&B singer, rapper and songwriter Dez Mensa (Derry Mensah) is releasing his first offering of his solo material, ‘Way Too Drunk’ (produced by Dynamiks), due to be available to purchase on January 8th.
With his Chris Brown slash Trey Songz tone, the vocally gifted young lad feeds our ears with perfectly placed harmonies and banging club beats, which collaborate with a soulful style resulting in the ideal track for parties, night clubs or on top volume in the car to uplift your mood on the way to work.
I think we’d be lying if we denied that we couldn’t all relate to the line ‘I’m way too drunk to care right now’ which makes it even more fun to sing along to especially when you transform into your four (or six) pint self.
Mensa, who has been making music professionally since the young age of 20, desired for this tune to create a happy vibe which kept the party going and it seems he’s hit the nail on the head with this. With the typical and much loved R&B flavours he makes this track less predictable by mixing them with a more dancey bonus.
First emerging in the music scene back in 2011 when he appeared on the X Factor, Dez Mensa Wowed viewers from his first audition which since has had over a surreal 6 million views. He also expressed his love for one of the judges at the time Kelly Rowland which made it just that bit more memorable.
The four piece boy band he was in, ‘The Risk’, got through to the final rounds but unfortunately did not win, however they stuck by each other until September 19th 2014 when the guys decided to split and kick off their solo journeys.
He has since been signed to Citadel music group, a new independent label based in Birmingham.
Proving what a high achiever and hardworker he really is, since his X Factor experience Derry has played over 200 shows, making him the ‘most booked act’ on the history of the show.
By the looks of things, Mensa’s efforts and hard work are really paying off and his career as a performer and artists is about to get bigger. Watch this space and don’t forget to check out ‘Way Too Drunk’ especially next time you’re boozy.
