Proper British Pubs In Sydney

Follow us on Google News

Pubs In SydneyNow we all know what makes a good pub; lively atmosphere, beautifully brewed beers and a good group of mates with a dash of local music. But, remember, just because you’re away from home; it doesn’t mean that you can’t bring your pub love to Sydney and find a new local (don’t worry we won’t tell your local landlord back at home). Here’s some of our favourite pubs in Sydney, with a genuine pub feel to make you a little less homesick….

Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub

If it’s a home away from home and good Irish banter you’re after with a decent pint and every sport imaginable on the screens then Dirty Nelly’s is the best place for you. Located in picturesque Paddington and established 1850, Dirty Nelly’s is full of Irish charm and laughter. Every night has something different on offer down at Nelly’s, from Ladies Nights to BOGOF offers on main meals, the added atmosphere of Irish singers and music takes this pub back across the oceans to its homeland.
9-11 Glenmore Road, Paddington

PJ O’Brien’s

With the décor of a proper pub and a bustling atmosphere, this pub has a warm heart and serves great pub food throughout the day. Whether it’s a pint and some nibbles or a great fish dish with a nice glass of vino, this place has plenty of seating for all. Where else would you find an open fire and the sounds of Ireland just around the corner from the harbour? Head down there for the biggest St Paddy’s day party and feel right at home.
57 King Street, CBD

The Local Taphouse

Ok, ok so it’s completely understandable that you want to feel at home when you sit with a pint in your ‘local’ around Sydney. However, you also need to take full advantage of the fact that you are in one of the most amazing cities in the World where the sun shines and the birds are always singing. Inspired by Europe; why not hit the roof terrace with a selection of the finest beers from around the World. Who says a pub isn’t a pub unless it’s dark, dingy and just around the corner from your house? Venture into Darlinghurst and step into the Local Taphouse. On the ground floor is the public bar, complete with those ‘pub smell’ original floorboards, and chesterfields. Climb the stairs to more rooms of pure pub love and onto the roof where there is a log fire on and seating perfect for you and your mates to reminisce pub times at home.
122 Flinders St, Darlinghurst

Shakespeare Hotel

What’s more English and traditional than a good bit of Shakey? Rich food, cheap prices with a menu of many dishes all for $12.50, which is an absolute steal for the trendy upcoming area of Surry Hills. From chunky lamb shanks to a fine fish curry, ye olde Shakespeare Hotel keeps the proper pub feel alive and kicking. Not just a warm atmosphere, the quirky traditional setting established in 1879 makes it feel like you’ve been coming to this pub for years. With happy hours a plenty and the non-pretentious vibe – the Shakespeare Hotel is everyone’s local.
200 Devonshire St
Surry Hills
