Last spotted in these parts while opening for Eli Paperboy Reed and Royal Crown Revue on their recent Australian tours, Perth darlings BOOM! BAP! POW! has emptied their charges, reloaded with two new cracking singles and are ready to fire both barrels of their soul-pop shotgun all over the East Coast once again.
Following on from their WAMi triumph earlier in the year (where they took home the gong for Best Funk Act), Boom! Bap! Pow! returned to the studio to record the follow-up track to their sweet and sultry break-up tune ‘No Pleasin’. Such was the fruit of their labour that the hip-shaking quintet actually came out of there with TWO new songs – ‘Furniture’, a bright and beachy sunshine song, gently caressed by singer Novac Bull’s soothing vocals; and ‘Never Say Nothing’, which takes hold with blasts of brassy goodness and doesn’t let go until its chaotic climax.
Armed with these soon-to-be-crowd-pleasing numbers, Boom! Bap! Pow! is taking aim at venues along Australia’s eastern seaboard. Their blitzkrieg tactics will have them in and out of the East Coast in a matter of days, kicking off at the BIGSOUND music conference in Brisbane before heading south for shows in both Sydney and Melbourne.
Boom! Bap! Pow!’s occupation of the eastern bloc might be a short one, but citizens are advised to be on guard for a return assault later in the year. In the meantime, you can catch them in the Espy basement, Saturday 10 September. Free entry.
