Sampa The Great Premieres Debut Mixtape
Sampa The Great has unveiled her astonishing debut release ‘The Great Mixtape’. Described as a concoction of creativity, laughter, purpose and rhythms, this interesting combination is full of progressive tones and surprises, sounding both classic and innovative in sync.
With a passion for poetry that is translated into her lyrically crafted music, listeners are evoked into a dream-like state. Imaginative and adventurous, the music takes the spoken-word and hip-hop crossover of rap to a new level. Blurring the boundaries of traditional sound, Sampa The Great’s new mixtape is on top form. With roots from Sydney and Zambia, Sampa takes her multi-cultural journey into the heart of the music, crediting her time in Africa as direct influence for political consciousness and translation of the importance in humanity, spirituality, and necessity to belief in yourself to succeed.
The Zambian-born, Botswana-raised rapper, poet and singer-songwriter debut 12-track mixtape is out on the Melbourne-based label Wondercore Island (home of Hiatus Kaiyote, Oscar Key Sung, Jaala and several others). Produced by Australias Godriquez, The Great mixtape demonstrates experimental beats and left-field rhymes, influenced by Sampa’s inspirations: Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, Thandiswa Mazwai, Asa, Nneka, and Yasiin Bey.
