Name: Benedikt Jürges aka Ben
Current Location: Right now South-Western Germany is my home for a few weeks. But the last few months I spent travelling, which I am going to return to in about two weeks! After that, I’ll start studying in Rotterdam.
Occupation: Technically, I am working on a farm at the moment. But also just for a brief period. My general occupation in the last few months would be “world-traveller” or photographer, entertainer, doctor, chef, travel advisor or a lot of the things you can imagine (and probably some you can’t).
Best place you’ve been to this year: I’ve been to too many amazing places which are too different to compare! Regarding culture, Tibet was the most amazing place I’ve been to the last year. The Buddhism there and the way it influences everything is something super special. When it comes to nature, Patagonia was absolutely the best place by far! It’s just incredible, looking at those amazing landscapes or hiking through untouched areas… Speaking of fun, Bali or even more accurate Gili T, were the most fun places I can ever imagine. I had a great time there.
If you really feel like having one particular place, take Tibet, the Potala Palace. It just felt like being in an entirely different world. If you have never been, you might not understand, but standing in the Dalai Lamas private quarters and looking down on the Lhasa valley was something I will never ever forget in my life. It felt like looking at something else, not an area you spent the last few days in…)
Best cold place you’ve ever been to: That’s easier to answer. The best one would be Mt.Everest Base Camp on the Tibetan side. I hiked up to the basecamp from Tent City in the early morning to catch the sunrise and it was incredible!
Best beach you’ve laid on: There is just one answer: The white sands of Whitehaven Beach in Australia. If you’ve never been but love beaches, this one is a must! A beach, seven kilometers long, the whitest sand you can imagine and at sunrise and sunset there are no people at all!
Most dangerous place you’ve been to: This is harder again… I’ve been to soooo many places you might consider dangerous. It can be a sketchy neighbourhood, super-high altitude, edges of cliffs hundreds of meters above the ground etc. I could go on forever. But the place I’d say I felt the least comfortable was actually a small road on Bali, which I went up by scooter, following Google Maps. It was the worst road I’ve ever been on, the weather was quite bad and I was running out of gas. Additionally, I had all my luggage with me. So I got to a pass on top of a mountain and I was so not sure about making it down again. Lucky me for still being here!
A place you’re yet to discover: One place? Planet Earth! There is always something new explore and I hope I’ll always find something to go and get a new perspective on! But if you feel like knowing my next destination: I’ll be going to Western Canada to see the amazing national parks there. On the way I’ll stop in Iceland, a few places in the States, my favourite city Montreal and after all of that I’ll visit magical Cuba.
Why you love travelling: Travelling lets you explore the world, new people and their cultures but also yourself! It forms your whole character and the way you see the world. Furthermore, there is nothing as amazing as standing at a place you’ve never seen before and never imagined seeing or tasting some kind of (delicious) food of which you won’t even be able to pronounce the name of or turning a stranger into a friend… I hope everybody gets to experience that! Never stop travelling.
