The House Of Art And Culture Open Their Vibrant New Creative Space

107 Projects have created a cutting edge, hybrid art space in the heart of Redfern as a Sydney community hub. On September 8 they will be opening the doors to the public, with free entry.

This open day gives the community an insight into artists in their natural habitat, lurking behind the paint, or sticking that last little piece of silly string to the ceiling, in the open artist studios.

Nick Casey will be performing live music as a preview of his upcoming album, before its launch on September 6 at 107. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a first taste of new show ‘masterclass’ with Charlie Garber and Gareth Davies and will be treated to various poetry readings throughout the day.

107 Projects Founding member, co-creative director and venue manager Jess Cook said: “we are beyond excited at the prospect of opening this space and building the cultural hub that Sydney has been screaming for.”

Also available on the open day will be artist presentations, workshops running throughout and a BBQ laid on by sponsors YELP to still those rumbling stomachs. If you fancy being hands-on, get involved in some of the workshops.

The open day will also play host to the thought provoking exhibition, ‘Why White?’ which looks in to the phenomenon of modernism and white walls. The exhibition is a proud part of ‘Art & About’ and will be Curated by Australian artist Michelle McCosker.

‘Why White?’ showcases the work of some of Australia’s most promising artists including Hiske Weijers, Sean O’Connell, Jonathan James, Victoria Lobregat, Susan MacDonald, Louise Coxx, Bec Paton, Equilibrium Design Studio and many more.
