The Vaccines
Forming in just 2010, The Vaccines have made a pretty big impression since then. Their second and now infamous single ‘Post Break-Up Sex’ is what really thrust them into the limelight earlier this year and that light hasn’t stopped shining since.
With praise from The Daddy of Music, Jools Holland, over 5 million hits on you tube, gigs from Scotland to Switzerland and San Diego to Sydney, these London-based indie rockers are definitely doing something right. Sarah Wilk caught up with drummer, Pete Robinson to find out some more about The Vaccines…
Are you looking forward to performing in Sydney in August?
“Yeah, it seems so far away as we’ve got so much to do before then but wow its only a couple of weeks away now!”
Are you planning on seeing some of the sights while you are over here?
“Our schedule is always suitably insane so we only get to see little snippets of the world. But it’s good because you get a good vibe off of the places that you know you’ll want to go and see again.”
What is your favourite song off your debut album ‘What did you expect from the Vaccines’?
“To be honest it varies from day to day. One of my favorites to play live and what symbolised to me as a pivotal moment when we wrote it was ‘If You Wanna’. It was more experimental for us and helped us decide what direction we wanted to go in. Plus it always gets a good reaction from the crowd.”
What band or musician can you not get enough of at the moment?
“I’m not listening to a lot at the moment but I do keep getting to drawn to Deer Hunter, an American indie band. We are just so busy with the European Festivals that I haven’t had any spare time to give to discovering new music.”
Can you remember what the first CD was that you bought?
“I can’t actually remember the first one that I bought but the one that actually meant anything to me was Parklife by Blur.”
Does that mean you were or weren’t a fan of Oasis with the infamous Britpop clash of the titans back in the 90’s?
“I actually had Oasis too but I think I only had it because everyone else did! I just liked it because I had it so I suppose I liked them both really.”
Are you enjoying life touring with the band at the moment?
“We are honestly having the time of our lives. I hate the bands that complain about it. Yes, sometimes we will only get 2-3 hours sleep and get 3 different flights in a day but it’s worth it to see the world. If someone told me last year that this is what we would be doing in the future I wouldn’t have believed them.”
The Vaccines will be playing on Tuesday 2nd August at The Metro Theatre Sydney
