Melbourne's Fool Child reveal playful new single ‘Dance On Your Own’
UK expats Scott Harrison and Matthew Green aka Fool Child have been blending the ethereal soundscapes of indie-folk with the light-hearted clutter of surf-rock together since they met travelling back in 2016. Originally a duo, Fool Child honed their sound busking, but with their sights set on reaching wider audiences and with growing intrigue, they addedHannah Jackson and Callum Fitzpatrick rounding out the four-piece.
Melbourne’s Fool Child is now excited to reveal their new single ‘Dance On Your Own’ set to be released on Friday 20 April, as well as announce a single launch show on Wednesday 16 May the Gasometer Hotel (Upstairs).
Newfangled single ‘Dance On Your Own’ was recorded and mixed by John Castle (Angie McMahon, Jack River, Cub Sport), and showcases Fool Child’s dreamy tones playful lyrics, and newly expanded fuller and upbeat sounds, but still with their trademark folky element at the root. Think: Angus Stone vocals splattered on a Foals-inspired backdrop.
Matthew Green’s emotionally honest lyrics soar into each chorus, supported by perfectly layered backing vocals from Scott Harrison with jangly guitars adding the feeling that summer’s never going to end. ‘Dance On Your Own’ is a song about change and the inevitable transitions we all have to go through as travellers.

“It’s funny; some of the most meaningful relationships we’ve all been through have happened on the road, and therefore often had to end prematurely due to circumstance or whatever. It was one of those fleeting romances that inspired the song, but I think for all of us it’s come to represent embracing the change that people can trigger in you.” – Fool Child
